About
The fountains at Pepperdine University are truly iconic. In 2014, the university shut down all 12 fountains to directly acknowledged the effects of the California drought. Since 2016, two fountains have been turned back on with other fountains under investigation on a case-by-case basis.
Hero’s Garden serves as a powerful memorial to the lives lost in 9/11 and was turned back on last fall for sentimental value. The Joslyn fountain Plaza was turned back on earlier this year due to its iconic centerpiece for the undergraduate campus.
Water conservation remains a top priority at Pepperdine University, and both fountains have been restored in ways to reduce water consumption and promote sustainability.
“As a current student at Pepperdine University, I think it's important to acknowledge the sentimental value of the fountains on campus while still trying to promote and encourage water sustainability.”
